A deleted scene from Shazam! Fury of the Gods has surfaced online, revealing connections to 2017’s Justice League. The scene features Billy Batson (Asher Angel) and Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer) discussing the role of Batman in protecting Gotham City as its only superhero. In addition, Freddy mentions the events of Justice League, referring to the team uniting to face real threats such as “giant portals in the sky, weird insect-like drone armies and pissed off aliens.”
It is worth noting that James Gunn and Peter Safran are currently working on a soft reboot of the DC Universe, so it remains to be seen whether or not Shazam will make an appearance in future films. It’s possible that the references to the Justice League were cut because they no longer fit into the new continuity that Gunn and Safran are creating.
The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies set to hit theaters this year. David F. Sandberg directed Shazam! Fury of the Gods from a script written by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan, Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The film stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, D.J. Cotrona, Grace Caroline Currey, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Marta Millans, Cooper Andrews, Djimon Hounsou, Rachel Zegler, Lucy Liu and Helen Mirren.
The official Shazam! Fury of the Gods synopsis reads as follows: “Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos. But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.”
