A brand new theatrical poster for New Line Cinema and DC Films’ upcoming new movie Shazam! was released, showing off the titular hero (Zachary Levi) just chilling with his smartphone as he blows some bubblegum minding his own business. That image of Shazam blowing bubblegum made its debut on the Entertainment Weekly SDCC 2018 cover and director David F. Sandberg has used the poster as a means to have some fun with some Justice League characters.
The latest Shazam poster spoof from Sandberg comes in the form of the main antagonist of Justice League, Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds). It is pretty funny seeing fellow DC superheroes Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) blowing some bubblegum with Shazam, but seeing Steppenwolf doing so is even funnier. In fact, he’s not even forming the full bubble at all, but rather it has popped all over his face.

Sandberg, Zachary Levi and much of the film’s cast and crew have emphasized that Shazam! is going to be a significant tonal shift from the previous DC Extended Universe films and will be more lighthearted and kid-friendly in comparison to previous outings. The first teaser trailer gave fans a hint at the film’s humor, so perhaps these tongue-in-cheek photos involving these Justice League characters are more in-line with the humor of the film while also incorporating the continuity of the DCEU.
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Honsou.
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
Shazam! will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019.
