‘Shazam!’ Director Teases ‘Lights Out’ Character Crossover

David F. Sandberg has revealed which character from Lights Out will appear in Shazam! when it hits theaters in April

Nowadays, many different studios are trying to create their own shared universe of movies similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Naturally, the world of DC makes for the perfect connected universe. It turns out that Shazam! will connect that universe in a very unexpected way.

A DC fan on Twitter recently reached out to Sandberg to address something that caught their eye. On the Wikipedia page for Sandberg’s 2016 horror film Lights Out, it states the director revealed in an interview that a character from the film would appear in Shazam!, meaning that they take place in the same universe. Sandberg had a very interesting response for the fan on Twitter. Check out the director’s response in the post below.

It looks like Andi Osho will be making an appearance in Shazam! as “basically” the same character. Osho played Emma in Lights Out and although she may not be playing the exact same character, fans can now revisit the film to see how her character mirrors her role in Shazam! when it finally hits theaters. The joke about Diana is, of course, a reference to the supernatural antagonist of Lights Out, played by Alicia Vela-Bailey.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Shazam! as soon as more information becomes available. Were you a fan of Lights Out? What are some of your favorite movie crossovers? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Djimon Honsou.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Shazam! will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019.
