Often with TV spots or trailers, they are edited in a certain way where completely different scenes are spliced together. This could be in an effort for the studio to mislead fans to avoid spoilers or provide some misdirection, a-la Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War trailer that showed the Hulk in the battle of Wakanda, or this method can be used merely due to what content is currently polished enough to make it into a trailer. This seems to be what’s happening here as this specific scene of the assumed young Sivana is spliced between two different shots of Billy Batson. It’s a quick succession of shots, but not much can escape comic book fans these days. With the next full-length trailer for Shazam! bound to release, there will surely be more easter eggs and nuggets to be found!

David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) has directed from a script written by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke. Shazam! is being produced by New Line Cinema in conjunction with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.

Shazam! stars Asher Angel, Zachary Levi, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Faithe Herman, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou. Here’s the official synopsis for DC’s Shazam!:

“We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).”

Shazam! will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019, and will be followed by Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020. A standalone Joker film set outside of the DC Films universe starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime is also set to hit theaters October 4, 2019.
