‘Shazam!’ Sequel Not Announced At CCXP Brazil Despite Reports

Shazam Fury of the Gods Zachary Levi Marvel DC

Despite reports that a Shazam! sequel was officially announced at 2019’s CCXP Brazil, it appears that’s not the case.

Yesterday, numerous outlets reported that Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films officially announced a sequel to this year’s critically-acclaimed superhero film Shazam!. During WB’s presentation, clips from David F. Sandberg’s film which starred Zachary Levi as the original Captain Marvel were played in a reel, which may have led some in the audience to believe that this was the studio’s way of confirming a sequel was announced.

However, this has been debunked. Collider’s Steven Weintraub, who was in attendance at CCXP tweeted the following:

While WB did not announce a Shazam! sequel at CCXP, with Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam set to shoot next year as well as a script for a sequel announced to be written back in April, don’t be surprised if a sequel is announced sometime in the near future. After all, the film ends with a mid-credits sequence setting up a sequel and fans are also eager to see Zachary Levi and Dwayne Johnson onscreen together as Shazam and Black Adam respectively.

Here is the synopsis for Shazam!:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.

Shazam! is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
