Shazam! director David F. Sandberg reveals that Zachary Levi may receive a suit upgrade in the upcoming sequel to New Line Cinema and DC Films’ acclaimed movie.

While answering a few fan questions on his official Instagram story, Sandberg revealed that Zachary Levi may be donning an updated Shazam suit when he returns to the big screen in the sequel. Sandberg said that fans shouldn’t be surprised about some improvements on the suit:

“There are some improvements that could be made. [I mean] some things that we were [sort of] were aiming for but didn’t quite get right before it was time to shoot. Yeah, a little bit.”

When set photos from Shazam! first leaked featuring Zachary Levi as the original Captain Marvel, some fans were concerned that the suit looked too goofy. Those concerns were put to rest after the first teaser trailer dropped at San Diego Comic-Con in 2018, showing fans that the colors, texture and Zachary Levi’s physicality fit the tone that Sandberg and DC Films was going for.

Updated suits is a common practice for superhero films, and to see Zachary Levi donning a new suit for the Shazam! sequel would not be surprising. If Sandberg’s comments are to be believed, perhaps Zachary Levi will not be the only one donning a new suit and maybe the rest of the Shazam family will be upgraded as well.

What do you think of the suit as seen in the first film? Are you excited about the possibility of Zachary Levi wearing a new suit in the sequel? Here is the synopsis for the film:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.

Shazam! is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
