Zachary Levi has found himself on the wrong end of the internet following Shazam! Fury of the Gods flopping at the box office. A new controversy has cropped up surrounding the star following an anti-LGBTQ+ organization on Twitter.
Zachary Levi’s social media presence has seemingly done nothing but harm his reputation since Shazam! Fury of the Gods hit theaters. From his live streams ranting about the film’s performance at the box office to poorly received comments taking shots at Pfizer, this is far from the worst controversy Levi has been embroiled in.
This latest controversy started when media critic Bob Chipman shared a screenshot showing Zachary Levi following the organization “Gays Against Groomers” on Twitter:
While their name seems to mimic that of any run-of-the-mill activist group, the organization has largely been labeled as far-right and anti-trans due to their opposition to the LGBTQ+ education in schools and protesting drag events. GLAAD, a non-profit advocacy group based on LGBTQ+ advocacy, says the group promotes the conspiracy theory that the LGBT community is grooming minors. The group has previously been banned from a number of sites due to their rhetoric.
It’s currently unclear if Zachary Levi knows the reputation surrounding “Gays Against Groomers”, as he has yet to issue a response. As of the writing of this article, Levi is still confirmed to be following the organization on Twitter.
