M. Night Shyamalan Teases ‘Heart Pounding’ Ending to ‘Split’ Sequel

James McAvoy Split Glass

With Split releasing on Blu-Ray and DVD today, the M. Night Shyamalan flick is on many fan’s minds. The January horror/thriller stood out not only for James McAvoy’s performance as a man with 23 personalities but for the twist-ending (spoilers ahead) where Bruce Willis’ Unbreakable character David Dunn appeared at the end of the film, connecting the two universes.

Shortly after the film’s release, Shyamalan said Samuel L. Jackson, who played Mr. Glass in Unbreakable, is already on board to reprise the role in a future film bringing David Dunn into conflict with McAvoy’s Horde. Now, it sounds like Shyamalan is hard at work on his Split sequel and has teased that the ending is going to be quite something, “Heart pounding” even. You can see his tweet about writing the ending below.

In particular, Shyamalan’s comments about being worried for multiple characters is interesting. He could certainly be referencing Dunn but may also be referring to Dunn’s family or even Horde-survivor Casey Cooke (Anya Taylor-Joy) or Elijah Price (Jackson). Of course, he could be referring to all new characters as well. With Shyamalan wrapping up the film’s climax, maybe we’ll be treated to some more teases or details soon.

While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being. Though Kevin has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher, there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey, Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him – as well as everyone around him – as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.

Split released on Digital HD April 4 and on Blu-Ray and DVD today. The film starred James McAvoy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Betty Buckley, Haley Lu Richardson, and Jessica Sula, and Bruce Willis in a cameo role. A sequel to the film is currently in development.
