Sigourney Weaver is no stranger to movie franchises, and in a recent interview with Wired, it seems like she’s gearing up to join perhaps the biggest franchise around: the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Alien actor was discussing the state of Hollywood’s fascination with superhero films and franchises, when she may have dropped a huge tease about her next venture.
“I have been watching, for whatever reason, some Marvel movies, and they cast really good actors.”
What if the reason is because she’s preparing to join the franchise? When pressed on why she’s watching these movies all of sudden, she remained vague.
“I can’t tell you!” she says. Fair enough, but she will say she’s enthralled by the work Marvel is doing, and by the performers populating their ever-expanding universes. “How can you relate to someone flying around with a cape?” she asks. “That takes work.”
Either we’re being incredibly optimistic or we’ve read between the lines and Weaver will soon appear in the MCU. We know which option we’d prefer to be true!
As for who she could play, that’s a minefield – though Marvel recently casted Brie Larson as Captain Marvel and she’s set to appear in Avengers: Infinity War, so there’s a good chance Marvel will be casting others for the movie too. Another option could be Janet van Dyne in Ant-Man and the Wasp!
The next instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes in the form of Doctor Strange on November 4th, 2016.
