Simon Kinberg Comments On Plans For The Future Of The ‘X-Men’ Cinematic Universe

Photo_Apr_20__9_18_40_PMThis week X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters and essentially sets a new direction for the films after the soft-reboot and course correction brought about by First Class & Days Of Future Past. Besides the mainline X-Men films, there’s a number of other franchises on the way that will further expand the X-Men Cinematic Universe. While speaking with Latino Review, writer and producer Simon Kinberg was asked about what the future holds for the franchise and had the following to say regarding their plans.

Because we have DEADPOOL, GAMBIT, and THE NEW MUTANTS, which are all equally important to us. With the mainline movies I would love to keep doing what we’re doing, which is each time trying to innovate and keep telling compelling stories. If it were up to me we get to keep making movies with Fassbender, McAvoy, Jen Lawrence, and Nicholas Hoult, and obviously the new cast as well. That’s the hope, and it’s something that occupies the vast majority of my time these days.

It’s something that I’m constantly in conversation with Lauren Shuler Donner, and Hutch Parker, and the other producers of the movies, and the studio about we really are trying to create something that the studio didn’t always do, which is we’re trying to create a larger tapestry that all of these movies can be part of. You can have the experience of watching just one of them and it can be a satisfying 2 hour or however long experience, but if you watch all of the pieced together it’s an even deeper experience and understanding of the characters.

When the outlet asked Kinberg if he knew what was in store and what would come next, he replied that he does “know how they’re going to come out and the way we want to make them” but wouldn’t reveal any details regarding their order because “there would be some surprises left”.

Recently there’s been a lot of chatter about the possibility of Laura Kinney aka ‘X-23’ appearing in one of their upcoming films, something that a scene in Apocalypse might just hint at. The outlet proceeded to ask Kinberg about this one but he’s keeping his lips sealed and stated that he will “plead the Fifth. I’m sorry. There’s a few ones that I will plead the Fifth on. I’m usually pretty forthcoming but that’s one I will say, to be determined.” Sound off with your thoughts on Kinberg’s comments in the section below.

I like Fassbender but I’ve seen enough Magneto. I don’t think anyone wants more Mystique and Beast either. I really think that Kinberg is out of touch and needs to be taken off all the X-Men properties.

Ya, unfortunately Magneto, as much as I love him, needs to take a back seat for a while. I caught the beginning of first class the other day. I’m lamenting the fact we didn’t get a Magneto movie, that was certainly the right opportunity and the right actor to do it.

Bring Magneto back down the road as maybe an antihero in a savage lands adaptation, or an antagonist with fatal attractions way down the line after phoenix saga, and a couple x-force movies.

Agreed about Magneto. Enough is enough. 6 movies with Magneto involved is putting a huge limit to such a big and rich universe.

I see what you’re saying, but Fassbender is so good as Magneto that I’m cool with him being in every movie. What I really want to see is Bryan Singer GONE from this property forever. His style is so incredibly stale and dated. Plus I really dont think he understands these characters. X-Men need a new life.

I’d love for all cast of X-Men Apocalypse to return for the sequel.
