Simon Kinberg Talks ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ & The Franchise Going ‘Cosmic’

X-Men Apocalypse

We’ve been learning quite a bit more about the X-Men franchise over the last few months, and it looks like Fox may have even more that we expected in store for the future. With an entirely new timeline and continuity in place due to the events of ‘Days To Future Past’, Bryan Singer and company have the ability to take the franchise in a completely different direction and from the sounds of it that might even include exploring the cosmic side of their Marvel properties.

In an interview with MTV at the Toronto Film Festival, producer Simon Kinberg commented on taking the franchise into a more “cosmic” direction and the titular villain’s look:

“I feel like we have been, the ’X-Men’ franchise, has been growing a little bit more into science fiction. I think ’Days of Future Past’ with time travel and the Sentinels took us into a slightly broader, more science fiction world than the films had occupied in the past. We felt like the movies were ready for something that was slightly more, let’s say, cosmic. Once we made the decision for Apocalypse to be the villain at the center of the movie, we wanted to be true to the comics, which are sort of, like you, say, not costume, but it’s not just a guy in a helmet. It is more cosmic.”

Some exciting comments especially knowing that there’s a chance that perhaps we could see the Phoenix again done right and perhaps even the appearance of the Shi’ar. Are you looking forward to the future of the franchise heading down a more “cosmic” path? Let us know in the comments below.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ hits on theaters May 27th, 2016.
