When it was announced, Star Wars fans from around the world cheered at the idea of a Han Solo spin-off film. Harrison Ford did his swan song as his legendary character was killed by his own son in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. So it’s an incredible thing that his character can live on with another actor portraying him. Directing duo Phillip Lord and Chris Miller were attached and cast Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover as their lead actors. Ehrenreich would play Han Solo, while Glover would play the infamous Lando Calrissian.
With about 3 weeks left of filming, all seemed to be going well, that is until it was announced that Lord and Miller would be taken off the project due to creative differences with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy. It would be later announced that Ron Howard would replace them. Howard was rumored to be reshooting a lot of the movie as well as a few pick up shots due to the length of his filming. Marketing and talk of Solo: A Stars Wars Story has been few and far between, but at the 2018 TCA’s Deadline got a chance to chat with Donald Glover and he had this to say about how much the film has changed since the directors swap:
“It didn’t really, I think we were never faced with anything like that and he did a good job of coming in and didn’t want us to change what we were doing at all. He wanted us to be comfortable with our vision.”
When it came to Lando and reshoots, Donald Glover didn’t really stress it as he states there were “Not a ton”. Glover goes on to explain his experience in regards to the reshoots:
“It’s weird. I didn’t have a lot of stress on me, This is the first time in a long time, I was just acting. Most of the time, I have to write or do music. This time I woke up and got to be somebody else and the stress wasn’t there for me.”
What do you guys think of Donald Glover’s comments? Do the reshoots and Director swap worry you? Sound off in the comments section!
