New ‘Sonic’ Movie Redesign Gives Fans Exactly What They Wanted

A brand new redesign for Paramount’s live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film shows the titular speedster with the game-accurate look fans asked for.

Sonic fans came out in full force and demanded a game-accurate redesign for the character’s big screen debut after the first official trailer for the upcoming live-action movie focused on the blue hedgehog. The backlash ultimately gave way to Paramount Pictures postponing Sonic the Hedgehog to allow the animators enough time to completely redesign Sonic’s look for the highly-anticipated film.

In the meantime, fans have taken it upon themselves to redesign Sonic and give the blue hedgehog the look they want to see in the film when it arrives in theaters early next year. A new image from Instagram user darlison_4d gives Sonic what might be the best game-accurate redesign we’ve seen yet. But you be the judge. Have a look below!

What do you think? Do you like this Sonic redesign more than Paramount’s original look for the speedster? Sound-off your thoughts in the comments!

So far, we have yet to see what Sonic’s new look for the film will be, and whether or not it will stay true to his fan-favorite video game design. But Ben Schwartz, who is voicing Sonic in the film, did offer fans hope when he teased the character would be getting a redesign similar to his classic video game look. Producer Tim Miller also believes fans will be satisfied with the redesign for Sonic. However, Jim Carrey, who plays the villainous Dr. Robotnik in the movie, previously revealed his concerns that he isn’t too sure the choice to redesign Sonic based on the fan backlash is going to work out in the end.

The Sonic the Hedgehog film is set to follow Small-town sheriff Tom Wachowski (played by Westworld star James Marsden) and the titular Hedgehog as they embark on a road trip in a race against time to recover the blue hedgehog’s rings before the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Here is the official synopsis:

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster video game franchise from Sega that centres on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination.

Directed by Jeff Fowler from a script written by Patrick Casey, Josh Miller, and Oren Uziel, the upcoming film features the voice talent of Ben Schwartz as the titular character and stars James Marsden as sheriff Tom Wachowski, Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Neal McDonough as US Army Major Bennington, Tika Sumpter as Mrs. Wachowski, Lee Majdoub as Stone, and Frank C. Turner as Crazy Carl. Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Debs Howard, and Elfina Luk also star in undisclosed roles.

Sonic the Hedgehog hits theaters next February. Stay tuned for the latest news on the live-action Sonic movie!
