This Sonic the Hedgehog movie redesign gives the iconic video game speedster the look fans deserve.
After Paramount Pictures revealed the first official look at the design for Sonic in his upcoming first-ever live-action movie, the production was met with so much backlash that director Jeff Fowler announced himself the film would be pushed back from its initial release date of November 8, 2019, to February 14, 2020 in order to give the animators enough time to completely redesign Sonic’s look for the film.
Ben Schwartz, who voices the iconic SEGA character, then teased that the redesign for Sonic would be much closer to his classic video game form that what we saw in the first trailer. The original Sonic design was harshly criticized for its teeth, face, and body. While Paramount has yet to reveal the new design for Sonic, fans are taking matters into their own hands and giving the speedster the look he deserves. Digital artist dillpill702 has given taken the movie’s Sonic design and given him a more game-accurate look featuring bigger eyes, gloves, and his iconic sneakers. You can check it out below!

Paramount’s live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film is set to follow Small-town sheriff Tom Wachowski (played by Westworld actor James Marsden) and the titular Hedgehog as they embark on a road trip in a race against time to recover the blue hedgehog’s rings before the evil Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Ben Schwartz provides the voice for Sonic.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster video game franchise from Sega that centres on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination.
Directed by Jeff Fowler from a script written by Patrick Casey, Josh Miller, and Oren Uziel, Sonic the Hedgehog features the voice talent of Ben Schwartz as the titular character and stars James Marsden as sheriff Tom Wachowski, Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Neal McDonough as US Army Major Bennington, Tika Sumpter as Mrs. Wachowski, Lee Majdoub as Stone, and Frank C. Turner as Crazy Carl. Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Debs Howard, and Elfina Luk also star in undisclosed roles.
Sonic the Hedgehog will be released in theaters on February 14, 2020.
