Sonic the Hedgehog creator Yuji Naka shared his thoughts in the speedsters redesign for the upcoming film.
Today, Paramount unveiled a new Sonic the Hedgehog trailer that offered fans their first official look at the redesign for the speedster, which stemmed from the poor reactions to the character’s original design and prompted the studio to push back the release date. While the new Sonic movie design was not a complete reaction of the video game version, many consider it less jarring than the previous look for the blue hedgehog.
Now, Sonic creator Yuji Naka has taken to Twitter to share his reaction to the new movie design and Dual Shockers translates his posts. In his first, Yuji Naka expressed his disappointment over the original Sonic movie design seemingly being erased from existence online and noted that he wanted to see a DVD version of the film with the original look for the speedster:
“Sonic’s new design for the movie is out. However, it seems they’re making it as if the old design didn’t exist, as the movie official account’s old tweets were deleted. I wanted to see a special DVD version of the movie which used the old design. Too bad.”
In a follow-up post, Yuji Naka stated that he still finds to decision to keep Sonic’s eyes apart to be weird a choice. However, Yuji Naka added that he’s still looking forward to seeing the Sonic movie and seemingly approved of the Hedgehog being given his gloves back for the project:
“This is the new trailer with Sonic’s new design. The design is much more Sonic-like now that he’s wearing gloves. However, his eyes still aren’t joined together, as expected. I can’t help but feel weird about that one point. But I’m looking forward to the movie’s release.”
