Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has officially added The Suicide Squad star Idris Elba to its cast as Knuckles.
The first Sonic The Hedgehog film was one of 2020’s few hits. Releasing a few months before the Covid-19 pandemic hit the United States, the film would ultimitly earn over $319M worldwide on an $85M budget. It wasn’t long before the people behind the film put a sequel in development.
It’s been known for some time that the cast of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 would include more of the games’ iconic characters. Tails, for example, first appeared in the film’s after-credits ending and it was eventually confirmed that Sonic’s onetime enemy turned ally Knuckles would be involved in the film as well. Now we finally know who will play the iconic echidna.
In a recent post, Idris Elba confirmed that he would be playing Knuckles. The Suicide Squad star did not give away any details as to whether his character would be a hero or villain and only posted an image of the character’s fist with the hashtags for the film. You can see the full post below:

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster video game franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination.
Directed by Jeff Fowler from a script written by Patrick Casey, Josh Miller, and Oren Uziel, the film features the voice talent of Ben Schwartz as the titular character and stars James Marsden as sheriff Tom Wachowski, Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Neal McDonough as US Army Major Bennington, Tika Sumpter as Mrs. Wachowski, Lee Majdoub as Stone, and Frank C. Turner as Crazy Carl. Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Debs Howard, and Elfina Luk also star.
