‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ Wins Second Weekend At The Box Office With $26.7 Million

Sonic The Hedgehog Baby Sonic

Sonic The Hedgehog remained king at the box office with a $26.7 million weekend total.

Paramount’s live-action Sonic The Hedgehog movie is turning heads at every front by proving to be the best bet at the box office. Sonic The Hedgehog, which is currently in its second weekend, is on its way to becoming one of Paramount’s biggest hits in recent memory. This weekend, Sonic was up against Harrison Ford’s The Call of the Wild, another family-friendly film.

Harrison Ford’s latest outing proved to be a worthy match for Sonic, as The Call of the Wild brought in $25 million. Sonic retains both the nostalgic factor for parents and the goofiness that children just love, which is certainly why it was able to trump Harrison Ford’s well-received The Call of the Wild.

On its way to cinemas, Sonic The Hedgehog faced an uphill battle thanks to a poorly received design for the titular character. Sonic’s original design was the subject of much ridicule and a bevy of memes. Taking the feedback to heart, the creative team behind Sonic The Hedgehog and Paramount believed the best course of action was to delay the film and give Sonic the redesign he deserved. Their gamble proved to be one of the film’s saving graces, as one of the highest praises the film has received since its release is the look of Sonic.

At this point, Sonic The Hedgehog is laughing all the way to the bank as its worldwide gross stands at $157 million. While the film’s significant delay from summer to mid-February and costly reshoots tacked on a couple million to its budget, it’s almost certain that Sonic will be one of Paramount’s saving graces.
