Sony Buys ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man’ PS4 Developer Insomniac Games

PS4 Marvel Spider-Man Insomniac Games Sony

After a 25 year run as an independent developer, Insomniac Games, the developer of the 2018 video game, Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PS4 has been bought by Sony.

In a report published by Kotaku, it was revealed that Sony has brought Insomniac Games under their fold. Since the company’s foundation, Insomniac Games has had a long and profitable relationship with Sony. Of the many games the developer has published, several of them have been PlayStation exclusives. In fact, the developer’s most lucrative brands, such as Spyro and Ratchet & Clank, started out as exclusives for Sony’s home consoles and arguably reached their peak while only releasing for PlayStation consoles. In their time, however, the company has managed to avoid being owned by a larger publisher. But now this has come to an end.

Full details on Sony’s acquisition of Insomniac Games are currently being kept under wraps. Insomniac Games’ latest project, Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PS4 was the company’s best selling game to date, moving over 13.2 million copies worldwide. The sequel to the PS4 game is currently in development and is expected to be released on the next generation of video game consoles.
