The Avengers: Endgame directors commented on Spider-Man: No Way Home setting box office records during its weekend debut.
Spider-Man: No Way Home blew industry pundits out the water this weekend when it made a debut splash of $260 million, beating Avengers: Infinity War‘s opening weekend cume. The Spidey threequel is still behind Avengers: Endgame’s opening numbers, which still peg it as the film with the highest opening weekend.
To make such profit during the global pandemic is unprecedented, but fans showed up in droves to see Tom Holland battle classic villains in Spider-Man: No Way Home. It’s hard to believe that Spider-Man was only launched in the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. After all these years, Spidey’s films are performing like Avengers projects, which speaks volumes about the character’s popularity.
The Russo Brothers who directed Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame – and who also launched Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War – reacted to Spider-Man: No Way Home bringing in the big bucks this weekend in a hilarious Instagram video.
