‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ Writer On Falcon Almost Debuting As Captain America

Anthony Mackie Tom Holland Spider-Man Far From Home Falcon Captain America

Spider-Man: Far From Home writer Chris McKenna has opened up, revealing the details behind the new sequel almost featuring Anthony Mackie’s Falcon debuting as the new Captain America.

Last week, Marvel studios creative executive Eric Carroll revealed that Spider-Man: Far From Home almost included the first look at Anthony Mackie’s Falcon suited up as the new Captain America. Anthony Mackie himself took to Twitter to jokingly blame Spider-Man actor Tom Holland for his character not appearing in the film.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, McKenna was asked about Anthony Mackie’s Falcon almost appearing, and whether or not his introduction as Captain America was included in an outline for the project:

“Not an outline, but as we were building toward the end of this movie, we were thinking about [who we could bring in]. It’s always great to draw on MCU characters and bring them into the fold. Happy [Jon Favreau] and Nick Fury are such great characters. … It could have been a day or less of going, “Hey, can we bring in someone like Falcon in to the third act?” and Peter sort of teaming up and sort of being a team leader and stepping up in that sort of way. So, it was discussed.”

It seems fans will have to wait until Anthony Mackie returns in the Marvel Studios series Falcon and the Winter Soldier to make his debut as the new Captain America. The series which will also feature Sebastian Stan is set to release exclusively on Disney’s upcoming streaming service, Disney+. Production is expected to begin next month.
