Spider-Man: Homecoming will be the titular hero’s second appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the film will also feature the first live-action depiction of the classic Marvel Comics villain named Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. Vulture. Portraying the antagonist will be Michael Keaton, best known to comic book fans for his role as the Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s Batman films. However, while fans may be looking forward to Michael Keaton’s return to the superhero genre, it appears Spider-Man: Homecoming may be the actors first and only appearance in the MCU as The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Keaton is only signed on to play the character for one film.
This does not necessarily mean Vulture will meet his demise in the upcoming film, as Keaton could be willing to make future appearances. However, plans for Spider-Man: Homecoming sequels could also involve other members of the wall crawlers enormous rogues gallery.
Are you disappointed to hear Vulture will likely be making only one appearance in the MCU or are you interested in seeing future Spider-Man films introduce new villains to the cinematic universe? Share your thoughts below!
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
Directed by Jon Watts, the film stars Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Michael Chernus, Kenneth Choi, Hannibal Buress, Martin Starr, Michael Barbieri, Angourie Rice, Abraham Attah, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will be released in theaters on July 7, 2017.
