During a visit to the set of Spider-Man: Far From Home, executive producerย Eric Hauserman Carroll discussed the possibility of seeing J. Jonah Jameson and The Daily Bugle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
So far, Marvel Studios and Sony’s Spider-Man films have centered on Peter Parker’s high school experiences while J. Jonah Jameson andย the Daily Bugle has yet to be introduced in the MCU.ย In fact, J. Jonah Jameson and The Daily Bugle have not been seen in a live-action Spider-Man film since J. K. Simmons portrayed the character in Sam Raimi’s third installment of his film series in 2007.
However,ย when asked if Peter Parker’s work life at The Daily Bugle or his relationship with J. Jonah Jameson could be explored in a future Spider-Man film, executive producerย Eric Hauserman Carroll noted they’ve discussed such a possibility. That said,ย Carroll indicated the MCU version of J. Jonah Jameson might have a different spin to modernize the character:
“Yes, weโve absolutely talked and thought about those characters a lot, specifically in reference to this film. What we just want to make sure weโre [presenting] them in a way that doesnโt make you feel instantly like youโve seen them before. So we have a couple of ideas, some of which I canโt really go into detail because theyโre spoilery, but itโs absolutely โย if we had an โinโ for the Daily Bugle that wasnโt just your traditional newspaperโฆand Peter Parker, thereโs this cool, weird thing happening where being a photographer isnโt necessarily a mark of distinction anymore. We all have better cameras in our pockets than most people even owned ten years ago. So how do we get Peter or somebody into that world without it feeling like, do kids really aspire to go be photographers for The New York Times anymore? Or do they aspire to have their tweet reposted, and so on.
So weโre trying to pay as much homage to the source material as possible, and we do think there are a couple of fun ideas like that in here, most of which I donโt want to spell out for you, but absolutely. We want to take as much of the mythology that people love and present it in a way thatโs totally faithful to what people love about it, but in a [different] way.?”
When asked if it would be fair to say J. Jonah Jameson or the Bugle would not be in Spider-Man: Far From Home,ย Carroll simply replied, “No.”
