Spider-Man franchise producer Amy Pascal revealed that she hopes the deal between Sony and Marvel will continue during an interview with Vanity Fair.
While Spider-Man’s inclusion in the MCU has proven to be successful for both Marvel Studios and Sony, the latter studio’s box office success with Venom sparked rumors that the company would opt to keep the film rights to the wall-crawler for themselves once the initial agreement expires. However, franchise producer Amy Pascal explained that hopes the agreement can continue in the future after being asked about the possibility of seeing Spider-Man and Marvel Studio’s part ways again:
“I think about crying. I can only hope for a future where things work out. I’ve known Kevin since he was Avi’s very, very quiet assistant, who for many years sat in that room listening to us and being so much smarter than any of us without any of us realizing. I will say that working with Marvel has been one of the highlights of my professional career.”
Marvel and Sony’s next Spider-Man film hits theaters next summer.
Full details on the plot are currently under wraps, though the film will follow Peter Parker as he joins his friends on a summer vacation in Europe and features the classic Marvel villain Mysterio. Introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #13, the most well-known incarnation of Mysterio is a special effects wizard named Quentin Beck and the character has been a frequent foe for the web-head since his debut.
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: Far From Home stars Tom Holland, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Jon Favreau, Jake Gyllenhaal, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Cobie Smulders, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, Numan Acar, J.B. Smoove, Oli Hill, and Remy Hii.
Spider-Man: Far From Home will be released in theaters on July 5, 2019.
