Sony and Disney have reached a deal for Spider-Man and other Marvel films to hit Disney Plus, Hulu, and other networks in the future.

After the expiration of a deal with Netflix, Disney Plus now features nearly all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films to date. With the addition of Fox under Disney’s umbrella, the X-Men films have also found their way on the streaming service. However, one major Marvel franchise that has been missing from Disney Plus is the Spider-Man films since Sony owns the distribution of them.

On Wednesday, Sony announced a new deal with Disney that allows Spider-Man and the other Marvel films from the studio to make their way to Disney Plus and Disney’s other networks. Earlier this month, Sony announced another deal with Netflix for exclusive pay-1 and co-production rights. This means new Sony films released theatrically from 2022 to 2026 will not arrive on Disney Plus and the other platforms until after their run on Netflix. In a press release, head of business operations for ABC, Freeform, FX Networks, and Acquisitions for Disney’s Media and Entertainment Distribution Chuck Saftler said the following:

“This landmark multi-year, platform-agnostic agreement guarantees the team at Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution a tremendous amount of flexibility and breadth of programming possibilities to leverage Sony’s rich slate of award-winning action and family films across our direct-to-consumer services and linear channels. This is a win for fans, who will benefit from the ability to access the very best content from two of Hollywood’s most prolific studios across a multitude of viewing platforms and experiences.”

Sony Pictures Entertainment Worldwide Distribution and Networks president Keith Le Goy also had this to say about the Disney and Sony deal:

“This groundbreaking agreement reconfirms the unique and enduring value of our movies to film lovers and the platforms and networks that serve them. We are thrilled to team up with Disney on delivering our titles to their viewers and subscribers. This agreement cements a key piece of our film distribution strategy, which is to maximize the value of each of our films, by making them available to consumers across all windows with a wide range of key partners.”
