Insomniac’s ‘Spider-Man’ Webs Up New Sales Records For Sony

Marvel's Spider-Man PS4 Sony Far From Home

If your last few weeks have been anything like mine, you’ve been spending a lot of your free time playing Insomniac’s Spider-Man. And it definitely looks like we’re not alone. USA Today reports that Sony sold 3.3 million copies of Spider-Man within the first three days of release thus setting a new sales record. The prior record was held by God Of War which sold 3.1 million copies in the same time frame when it hit shelves earlier this year. It’s also worth noting that this figure does not include the sale for the PlayStation 4 Pro bundle which featured a special Spider-Man themed console and a copy of the game.

With the game retailing for $60 a copy, that translates into around $198 million in revenue for Sony. While some will point out that’s even bigger than the $117 million opening for Spider-Man: Homecoming, it’s a bit of an unfair comparison as movie tickets don’t cost $60 a pop. Not even for IMAX. However, regardless of these comparisons, it’s still a massive win for Sony. Sony’s global VP of sales had the following to say about the record-breaking numbers webbed up by the wallcrawler:

“Our expectations are always set at the highest levels. It’s met and exceeded all expectations. I think the company and the campus, and our fans are super proud of it.”

Turvey also gave up to Insomniac Games who he said brought Spider-Man back “in a way that you want to experience it.”

Have you 100% completed Spider-Man yet? Did you make sure to stay through the credits? Are you hoping it launches an entire game universe for Marvel? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
