The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has announced that Stan Lee’s former business manager, Keya Morgan, has been charged with both imprisoning and stealing from the Marvel legend.
Keya Morgan, who was arrested on elder abuse charges this past weekend is being charged with one felony count of false imprisonment of an elder by use of fraud and deceit, plus three felony counts of grand theft from an elder of more than $950. They include an allegation of taking more than $100,000 through fraud and embezzlement. In addition, he also faces one misdemeanor count of elder abuse for knowingly and willfully inflicting mental suffering on Stan Lee.
Should Keya Morgan be convicted, he’ll face a maximum sentence of 10 years. Prosecutors have recommended bail be set at $300,000.
Keya Morgan managed to gain control of Stan Lee’s business affairs in February 2018 and allegedly isolated the Marvel co-creator, separating him from his family and friends. The LAPD said it launched an elder abuse investigation before Stan Lee’s passing. Documents filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court revealed Key Morgan had been accused of embezzling or misappropriating $5 million of assets in 2018.
The case currently remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department and the District Attorney’s Office, Bureau of Investigation. Keya Morgan was arrested in Arizona and is expected to be extradited to Los Angeles with arraignment being scheduled for a later date.
