Stan Lee Offers Himself Up For A Cameo In A DC Movie

stan lee

Stan Lee is a man of legend. Without him, the Marvel Cinematic Universe wouldn’t exist as there would be no characters to fill it with. On top of the classic Marvel Comics, his face has also become synonymous with the MCU, due to the fact he has had a cameo appearance in every Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to date – and then some.  His next conquest? DC, apparently.

Don’t expect to see Stan Lee grabbing Batman some lemonade or strolling down the sidewalk in Central City anytime soon, but at this past weekend’s Fan Expo 2016 he made it known that he would be okay with DC using him in a movie. This was all said in fun of course, and the crowd understandably went wild after he made the offer. Check out Stan Lee’s full response to the fan’s question below:

“I can’t make out what he said, but it sounded like it came from the heart. I want to do more cameos also, I’ve even let people know it doesn’t have to be a Marvel movie, I don’t know why DC hasn’t called me. They could use me!”

There you have it folks, Stan Lee officially offered himself over to the competition. I guess he just feels bad that all of DC’s movies are getting critically slammed, regardless of their fan appeal or overall entertainment quality. If you think about it, an offer like this really makes Stan Lee come off as a stand up guy. Check out the panel video:

Jack of some trades, master of some others. That saying never really made a lot of sense to me.

    It would be awesome

DC movies are making so much money right now ! i like the guy and i think it would be so cool for him to make a cameo in dc movies but the article implying that he’s trying to help them somehow is disgusting

    • SAMURAI36

I completely agree. As if his presence in the Marvel films somehow increase the quality of those films. He’s basically the Where’s Waldo aspect.

      >>>>”DC movies are making so much money right now “

You really have a strange notion of what “so much money” actually means in the context of the movie business.

Not a single DC movie in this new DCEU Universe (post-Nolan’s Batman movies which weren’t part of it) have crossed the Billion dollar mark and you think they are making “so much money right now”????

Nobody is saying that a Stan Lee cameo would change this aspect if the financial situation of their movies, but it would at least show that DC can stop taking themselves (and their movies) so seriously enough to pay some semblance of respect to someone who’s done a world of good to the entire comics industry (and not just Marvel) by his contributions to it.

But DC execs would never be capable of such far-sighted thinking.

yeah sure if a movie doesn’t make a billion, it’s not making money, so according to your logic only 4 marvel movies made money and the rest didn’t

        • Marquis de Sade

Hey, when you spend $410 million (Production and Marketing) + starring your holy trinity (Batman, Superman & Wonder Woman), and still can’t crack $900 million, then yes, dceu is an UTTER FAILURE!

          • bingeit 45

sure you can call it metaphoric failure but we are talking about financial failure here and the fact is all 3 movies made them money

      • MaDNaD

Remember DC have just started and the movies they have release to lay the groundwork for their universe, these have faired better that Iron Man 1, Thor and the first Captain America.

So yeah DC are doing ok it’s the expectation that is high.

        • Rob

Yeah, but Deadpool made more than either BvS (at least domestically) or Suicide Squad and Deadpool isn’t even really in a cinematic universe (although technically he is in the X-Men one).

I think people are using the “they are just starting the cinematic universe” thing too much. We are talking a movie with Batman fighting Superman. The same people who were arguing last year that BvS would beat the Avengers at the box office because people have waited a lifetime to see Batman take on Superman are now saying that WB is just starting to create an universe.

BvS significantly underperformed. There is really no way to deny that. That movie should have grossed a billion.

    • Axxell

Wait…You’re disgusted that someone implied that DC might need some help after the critical downhill direction they’ve taken?

  • Maximillian Pegasus

    That could be amazing.

I would be cool if they employed someone like Adam West for cameos in DCEU movies, though.

    • Worldmind

Stan Lee in DC would be odd, but cool with me. Adam West would be even better.

I’m hoping he shows up in the Batfleck movie.

  • Peter James

If DC were smart, they’d be all over this offer and suggestion.

It could be a quick, funny, and even self-referential cameo that acknowledges the absurdity of his appearance in that particular universe – given what audiences are used to associating his cameos with and the relationship between the DCEU and the MCU.

Of course, the key phrase here is…”if DC were smart……”

    • Rob

Personally, I think it would make them look desperate to copy Marvel.

  • Rob

I know Lee was joking, but I really hope that WB doesn’t do something like this. The DCCU has a lot of problems right now, but copying stuff like that would only make them look desperate to copy the Marvel template.

I had no problem with them going darker and more grittier with their movies. I have major problems with the execution of it thus far. What they need to do is come up with their own formula and make it work. They got the first part right, but they have failed miserably in the latter part IMHO.

I know the DC fanboys will jump all over this, but Marvel found a formula that works and more often than not makes movies that are very entertaining. Yes, they have the Thor Dark Worlds and Iron Man 3s to go against that, but they are probably batting about .800. WB/DC needs to copy them in that they need to find their own formula and make it more often than not be entertaining and not just make carbon copy movies of Marvel or steal some of their signature tricks.
