Karl Urban’s portrayal of Dr. Leonard McCoy is arguably one of the best things about the new Star Trek movies, and the actor has made it clear in the past that he’s a huge fan of the franchise. However, it sounds like he almost wasn’t a part of the latest one, Star Trek Beyond, which is now only a little over a month away from hitting theaters.
During a recent interview with IGN, Urban revealed that he had to choose between doing Beyond and another movie due to a scheduling conflict, but ultimately went with the former after having a chat with director Justin Lin. Here’s what he told the site:
“I was on the fence about doing the movie until I spoke with Justin. I had a conflicting schedule, and I had a decision to make about which film to do, and I was no longer under contract to do a third picture. So I had a decision to make, and it was talking with Justin that enabled me to commit to it. It was fantastic. It was a breath of fresh air, and I really appreciated Justin’s intimate knowledge and understanding of the character dynamics.”
That all sounds very promising and the latest trailer for the movie is absolutely fantastic, even though the first one was a disappointment. I’m definitely seeing this in theaters next month. What about you guys? Sound-off your thoughts in the comment section.
