‘Star Wars’ Actor Wasn’t Happy With Admiral Ackbar’s Fate In ‘The Last Jedi’

Star Wars The Last Jedi Admiral Ackbar

During a conversation with The Star Wars Show Live! at Star Wars Celebration Chicago, Admiral Ackbar voice actor Tom Kane commented on his character’s fate in The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi marked the final appearance of Admiral Ackbar after the character was killed when the TIE fighter opened fire on the Raddus bridge, causing an explosion that hurled the Rebel leader and many of his allies into space. Many fans felt it was an unceremonious death for a such a beloved character and actor Tom Kane, who voiced Admiral Ackbar in The Last Jedi and various Star Wars video games, noted that he was among those who weren’t pleased with how the Rebel leader’s death was handled:

“I’ve been Ackbar for about six years… and I was not really thrilled about how they blew him out the side of the ship.”

Tom Kane also noted that he believed Admiral Ackbar should have been the one to nobly sacrificed himself to save his allies in The Last Jedi, as opposed to Laura Dern’s Vice Admiral Holdo:

“I’m like, ‘Who is this Holdo woman? Nobody knows her, no one’s invested in her — who is she? Why is she saving the fleet?’ If anyone was gonna save the fleet it’d be Ackbar [laughs].”
