There was so much awesome news and so many exciting revelations that came out of last month’s Star Wars Celebration Orlando that even now, a whole month later, the awesomeness is still trickling in. One of the more interesting panels from the convention was the Animated Origins and Unexpected Fates panel, featuring Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni and the Lucasfilm Story Group’s Pablo Hidalgo.
Today, the Star Wars YouTube channel shared the full panel, including all of the images shown (which didn’t appear on the live stream), as well as what many considered the highlight of the panel, an animatic from what would have been the seventh season of The Clone Wars, featuring a showdown between Boba Fett and Cad Bane. The clip is from an arc that would have seen Bane showing young Fett the bounty hunter ropes. The animation isn’t completed, but the characters are fully voiced by Corey Burton and Daniel Logan, respectively.
Check out the full panel and the cinematic (which starts at the 47:18 mark) in the video below:
Based on this animatic, as well as some of the other unfinished episodes that have been revealed (the Bad Batch!), it looks like the never-produced seventh season of The Clone Wars would have been awesome. This is the main reason that Filoni decided to end Rebels with its upcoming fourth and final season so that they can bring the story to its natural conclusion on their own terms.
It was also at this very same panel that Filoni and Hidalgo seemingly confirmed the fan theory that former clone trooper Rex from The Clone Wars and Rebels actually survived long enough to fight in the battle of Endor, as depicted in Return of the Jedi.
