Disney CEO Bob Iger discussed George Lucas feels about the upcoming Star Wars series The Mandalorian.
Disney’s future plans for the Star Wars franchise include a handful of live-action television shows for the companies upcoming stream service. The first of these Star Wars projects will be The Mandalorian, a highly-anticipated series that will premiere when Disney Plus debuts in North America next week.
During an interview with Bloomberg, Disney CEO Bob Iger discussed his involvement with The Mandalorian through the various stages of the Star Wars show’s production. As Bob Iger explained, he has probably seen each episode of The Mandalorian three times:
“I’ve probably seen each episode of The Mandalorian three times. First, to give some notes. Second, to see the rough cut and the impact of the notes. And now, just recently, I watched all the final cuts so that I could be blown away by how it looks.”
In his upcoming book, the Disney CEO revealed that George Lucas had been disappointed with Star Wars: The Force Awakens upon realizing the creative team disregarded the story notes he provided when selling Lucasfilm. However, Bob Iger explained that George Lucas, who visited the set of The Mandalorian, has no issue with the Star Wars series, saying, “George has been fine.”
Here is the official synopsis for Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian:
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The Disney Plus series was written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist is also on board as a co-executive producer.
Dave Filoni will direct the first episode of the Star Wars series and additional episodes will be helmed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, and Jessica Jones director Deborah Chow.
The Mandalorian will premiere exclusively on Disney Plus on November 12, 2019.
