‘Star Wars’ Fan Gets Final Wish; Sees ‘Rogue One’ Early

Remember last year’s #ForceForDaniel campaign? Star Wars fans got a chance to do some good for Daniel Fleetwood – a fellow fan who was unfortunately terminally ill. His dying wish was to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens before he passed away and sure enough, thanks to the love and support of fans everywhere – he got a chance to see the film early.

Most recently, another campaign was launched for Neil Hanvey. Hanvey was a fellow Star Wars fan who had a terminal illness and launched a #RogueOneWish campaign that took social media by wildfire and helped him get the opportunity to see the new Star Wars Story before he passed. And thanks to the power of the force, it looks like Hanvey got a chance to see a cut of the film early.

On behalf of Neil Hanvey, his wife Andrea and all his family, we want to thank everyone who supported the #RogueOneWish campaign. The director of Rogue One, Gareth Edwards did all he could to make Saturday a very special day for Neil. Neil, his family and everyone at St Michael’s Hospice would like to say thank you to Disney, Lucasfilm and especially Gareth Edwards.

Sadly, Hanvey passed away a day later. His wife Andrea wrote a message following his death.

A message from Neil Hanvey’s wife, Andrea. ‘On behalf of all our family we would like to thank everyone who has passed on their condolences following Neil’s death last night. We would also like to thank the tens of thousands of people who supported the #RogueOneWish campaign. All the messages of love during the past week have given us a great deal of comfort during a very difficult time. We would also like to thank everyone at St Michael’s Hospice, especially Amy Duncan, without who #RogueOneWish would not have happened. All donations at Neil’s funeral will go to the Hospice’s Family Support team and will be used to fund work with children and young people. An online donation page will be set-up shortly.’

It is stories like these that remind us that fans are at their best when they unite together as a community to help out with a good cause. Because of that, Neil Hanvey got his final wish granted. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.
