James Mangold has finally commented on the rumor suggesting Lucasfilm had tapped him to direct a Star Wars spin-off film centered on fan-favorite Bounty Hunter Boba Fett.
Back in May, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Lucasfilm had hired the Logan director for the job. X-Men and Star Wars Rebels producer Simon Kinberg was also rumored to be in development on the Boba Fett spin-off, serving as a producer on the project and co-writing the script with Mangold. However, a recent Tweet from Mangold himself casts doubt on his involvement, as the director revealed his next project will instead be a period piece about car racing with Christian Bale and Matt Damon.
Look what I got from a self-proclaimed "lover of life"! Seriously Blackbird, chill. I'm making a period car racing movie w/ Christian Bale & Matt Damon. No Mandalorians involved. Stop reading so much gossip.
Oh, and in my opinion: children in cages = worst idea ever. https://t.co/e7zAa6GmCk

Plot details remain under wraps though Daniel Key Moran, author of the Star Wars Legends novel Tales of the Bounty Hunters revealed his novel could have an influence the long-rumored standalone film as the author has been contacted by Disney regarding Lucasfilm considering an adaptation based on the book.
Officially, Lucasfilm has Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss set to write and produce a new set of Star Wars films separate from both the Skywalker Saga and as well as a new trilogy from Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson who will write and direct the first installment of the trilogy.
Up next for the galaxy far, far away is Star Wars: Episode IX. JJ Abrams returns to direct the final installment of the sequel trilogy from a script he has co-written with Batman v Superman writer Chris Terrio. Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac are all expected to return. Keri Russel has reportedly joined the project as well.
Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters December 20, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the Star Wars franchise as we learn it.
