Kathleen Kennedy commented on how much longer she might want to continue working on the Star Wars franchise at Lucasfilm.
When Disney purchased Lucasfilm in 2012, Kathleen Kennedy was named the new president of the latter company and began overseeing the new Star Wars projects as a producer. While many fans have loved the direction the Star Wars franchise has taken under Kathleen Kennedy’s care, a vocal segment of the fanbase has been displeased with the new films and has placed the blame on Kennedy in spite of her decades-long record as an accomplished producer.
Currently, Kathleen Kennedy is signed on the continue as the president of Lucasfilm through 2021, but the producer discussed how much longer she might want to continue in the role during an interview with Rolling Stone. With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker set to conclude the main nine-film saga, Kathleen Kennedy stated she’s currently focused on the final chapter of the sequel trilogy and that she doesn’t know what the future holds for her and Lucasfilm at this time:
“I’ve really enjoyed this, I have to say. It’s been incredibly exciting. And just the fact that George asked me to do this, I felt a tremendous responsibility with stepping in and taking care of the franchise, and if there were going to be new movies, to really pull a team around this that cared as much as he did. What happens in the future, and how long and how much longer I do this? I don’t know yet. I’m looking at all of that. It’s been incredibly satisfying to reach this point where we’ve completed the saga and, I think, made a really wonderful movie. It’s going to feel very satisfying to the audience. So that’s what I’m focused on right at the moment — and what the future holds, who knows.”
