‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Could Give Captain Phasma A New Weapon

Captain Phasma The Last Jedi
Captain Phasma’s two-minute presence in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens left a lot of fans feeling like more could have been done with her character. The good news is that they’re looking to fix that issue with Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi by giving her a larger part, and she’ll be getting a new weapon to serve her expanded role.

According to Making Star Wars, word is going around that Phasma is getting a new kind of weapon for a few scenes in The Last Jedi: a special sort of spear. While the people at MSW note that said weapon will most likely not see any combat use in the movie (since the weapon is ceremonial), they speculate that it’s a similar kind of weapon that the First Order equivalent to the Imperial Royal Guard have when they’re around Snoke.

Given that Phasma was said to be a last-minute addition to the script meant to make use of a rejected design for Kylo Ren, it’s not really all that surprising that she was barely in The Force Awakens in spite of being one of the movie’s most disproportionately-marketed characters. Given that actress Gwendoline Christie and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy have suggested that a lot of thought was put into her character – even though we didn’t get to see very much of it in The Force Awakens. Hopefully, The Last Jedi and Episode IX will more than make up for her crippling underuse in The Force Awakens by getting around to what Christie and Kennedy were both building up to.

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi will rise on December 15, 2017. The movie’s cast includes Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa, Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Andy Serkis as Supreme Leader Snoke, Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma, Domhnall Gleeson as General Armitage Hux, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, Anthony Daniels as C-3PO, and Jimmy Vee as R2-D2. Newcomers to the cast include Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran.

8 Ways In Which ‘Star Wars’ Can Reach Its Full Potential

Star WarsThe Star Wars Universe is one of the greatest cinematic achievements of all time and the high quality of the recent films are not only proving how strong a franchise it is, but also continuing to gain legions of new fans every year. The series is fantastic and Disney’s films have brought it back in favor with both audiences and fans, but like any good franchise there are always ways in which a series can improve and as a huge fan I don’t think the series is at its full potential yet. There have been some minor issues and things that could be done differently that could make the series even greater than it already is and these can be addressed in future Star Wars films and in other mediums as well. With all of this being said it is appropriate to look at some of these issues and see how they can be addressed in a manner that could give everyone what they will want.

    But will TR-8R be back?

I can’t tell you for certain, but apparently the stuntman who played “TR8-T0R” (FN-2199) is back for another go. Rumor has it that there’s going to be a similar character to FN-2999 in the movie with more dangerous melee weapons – and hopefully, sicker spins to go with them.
