No one is quite clear on who Benicio Del Toro’s character is in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. The actor is listed as “DJ,” but besides that, there isn’t much else to go on.
There are some fans who believe that DJ may, in fact, be Ezra Bridger from Star Wars Rebels. But that’s just one theory. Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson attended this weekend’s D23 Expo and shot down the theory when asked if it could be true.
Speaking with Good Morning America, Johnson said that DJ is “his own person. DJ is his own person.” Who he is exactly and how he ties into the film’s plot still remains to be seen. However, Johnson did divulge that “DJ” does stand for something, but he just wouldn’t say what.
