At Star Wars Celebration Orlando, fans were finally introduced to Kelly Marie Tran. She was cast in Rian Johnson’s upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi as one of the new main characters, and is described to have “the biggest role of the new characters”.
During the panel for The Last Jedi, Johnson introduced Tran to the stage as she finally had the chance to publicly discuss her new character. In the film, Tran plays Rose – a member of the Resistance who works in maintenance.

John Boyega (Finn) sang Tran’s praises last year, showering her with compliments about what she brings to her role:
I love her. I love her. I think she’s fantastic. But she’ll tell her own story. I feel it’s always weird or wrong for someone the world hasn’t met, for me to come and start talking about her.
She’s great. She’s freaking great, and I love her. I freaking love her. She’s fantastic. Seriously. She’s changed a lot in terms of perspective on just chemistry and industry. She’s a real cool girl.
