And the Oscar goes to… Mark Hamill for Star Wars? Not as far-fetched as you might think.
The Awards Circuit Twitter posted this announcement by Disney which features all of the categories they are pushing Star Wars: The Last Jedi for in the upcoming Oscars race. In addition to the usual categories franchise pictures like Star Wars tend to compete in, such as sound mixing and visual effects, it seems that Disney will also be campaigning Mark Hamill for Best Actor and Daisy Ridley for Best Actress.

It would be nice to see awards go to some of the categories one might not expect a Star Wars movie to win in, and if anything this shows that Disney has a lot of confidence in the performances of its cast and crew that it could go toe-to-toe with some of the more highbrow awards films that tend to clean up at the Oscars.
We will have to wait to pass judgment for ourselves until December 15th, when Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrives in our galaxy.
Here is the synopsis:
“In Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.”
Written and directed by Rian Johnson, the film stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern and Benicio del Toro.
