Star Wars: Skywalker Lightsaber ‘Lives’ In ‘The Rise Of Skywalker’

Rey Star Wars Rise of Skywalker lighstaber Kylo Ren Han Solo Daisy Ridley

It takes a lot to kill a Jedi, apparently even more so to destroy Luke Skywalker’s legendary lightsaber. Confirmed by Rey actor, Daisy Ridley, herself, the lightsaber “lives” in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

During Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, the cast of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was brought on stage during a panel for the film. The moderator of the panel, Stephen Colbert, spoke to each cast member about various things about the final entry in the Skywalker Saga, trying to get any shred of information not guarded behind a Death Star-sized shroud of secrecy. When Colbert finally made his way to Daisy Ridley, he asked her about her force powers and if she was building a new lightsaber of her own.

Daisy’s response, while confirming the state of the lightsaber, does leave some mystery attached to it:

“My answer is not the end of the story… but the lightsaber that Rey inherited from Luke lives.”

The lightsaber lives, but that’s “not the end of the story.” This has surely opened the floodgates of Star Wars fans around the globe to start theorizing as to how the saber is reconstructed. For those who don’t recall, the lightsaber was last seen in the finale of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, where it was ripped in half as Rey and Kylo Ren used the force and played tug-of-war with the weapon. The current fate of the lightsaber warrants a rewatch of The Last Jedi to see if Rey had retrieved both halves or will reconstruct the lightsaber from the half she obtained in the scuffle.

Also during the Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker panel, Colbert asked Daisy Ridley if Rey will have any new force powers in the film. Daisy Ridley’s answers were little more than a tease of things to come, but a tease that would start a fleet of fan theories:

“There are some extraordinary things that the character and Daisy did in this movie… there are some other things, and you’ll see them soon.”
