‘Star Wars’: ‘The Mandalorian’ Will Reportedly Feature Classic Bounty Hunters

According to MakingStarWars.net, The upcoming Disney+ series The Mandalorian will feature notable and classic Bounty Hunters from the Star Wars Universe.

The site reports that infamous droid Bounty Hunter IG-88 has been spotted on the set of The Mandalorian, filming its close-ups. The droid is most famous for appearing, albeit briefly, in the movie The Empire Strikes Back in a scene where Darth Vader is instructing a group of mercenaries to find and bring him the Millenium Falcon and its occupants. Other Bounty Hunters featured in the scene are the famous Boba Fett, Dengar, 4-Lom, Zuckuss and Bossk.

This may be a big deal for the series as it may revolve around the world of the Bounty Hunters in the Star Wars universe, which the main movies and other TV franchises haven’t explored as much yet. Bounty Hunters are hired guns that are used by different groups, like the Hutt’s or the Empire, to search or destroy enemies in a more accurate manner. They’ve always been around but never featured prominently in the Star Wars films. Boba Fett in the original trilogy and Jango Fett in the prequels are the most famous ones by far. But others like IG-88 and Bossk have been fan favorites for years now with notable appearances in video games such as Shadows of the Empire and more recent appearances in Star Wars Forces of Destiny.

The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The series was written by Jon Favreau, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist is also on board as a co-executive producer.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

Dave Filoni will direct the first episode of the series and additional episodes will be helmed by Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi, Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, and Jessica Jones episode director Deborah Chow.

The Mandalorian will be available exclusively on Disney+.
