‘Star Wars’ Comic Reveals Meaning Behind Kylo Ren’s Name

Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker Adam Driver Kylo Ren

The meaning behind Kylo Ren’s name has been revealed thanks to the first issue of the Star Wars villain’s solo comic series.

While fans knew that Kylo Ren got his name from being part of the Knights of Ren, the meaning behind the Star Wars villain’s name has been revealed thanks to the first issue of his solo comic series – Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren. It takes place before The Force Awakens, but not long after Kylo Ren burnt down Luke Skywalker’s Jedi temple. The issue by Charles Soule, Will Sliney and Guru-eFX delves into the Knights of Ren and their philosophies, which reveals the meaning behind Kylo Ren’s name.

When Kylo Ren begins learning about the Knights of Ren’s beliefs, he’s told that the group follow the “shadow”, also known as their word for the Force. But their leader explains to Kylo Ren that they don’t follow him – they follow “the Ren”, which is what they call their lightsabers. It makes Kylo Ren’s name a little less mysterious when his last name is just another word for his weapon.
