Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently revealed that the characters of the new Star Wars trilogy could return in future projects.
With the recent Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker trailer being released, many fans were treated to the reveal that original Star Wars actor Ian McDiarmid will be reprising his role as Emperor Palpatine. With original trilogy actors like Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher having reprised their roles years earlier, many fans are curious if there are plans for the current stars to reprise their roles in the future. While at Star Wars celebration, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy spoke with MTV News and commented on the potential for current Star Wars characters to return in future installments.
“You know, there is an appropriate time. We’re using this appropriate time as an opportunity to see where we’re going now that we’re leaving the Skywalker Saga behind. But there’s no question that there’s certain characters that we’ve created certainly in the last three movies that we may very well wanna see down the line in the future.”
While it seems like actors Jon Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac are done for the time being, it is apparent that their stories may not be over. While the main Skywalker storyline is coming to an end, these beloved characters could make their on-screen return someday. In regards to the “appropriate time” that Kennedy mentioned, there is no real word on that. We know that Star Wars films will be taking a hiatus for a while after the release of The Rise of Skywalker.
While there is potential that creators like Rian Johnson, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss could bring these characters back in their upcoming projects, it is also possible that these characters could also appear on upcoming Disney+ shows like Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian. Which Star Wars character would you like to see return? Are you excited for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker? Let us know in the comments!
