It seems that, despite the ever-changing nature of films, much of what happens in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker may have been planned from the start.
The entire history of the Disney owned Star Wars franchise has been one that has been rife with turmoil. From the constant replacement of film directors to the EA video games to the controversy surrounding Star Wars: The Last Jedi, it seems that there is some controversy revolving around nearly every installment of the franchise. But it seems that, despite the constant look of chaos, Disney and Lucasfilm may have had the ideas behind the sequel trilogy locked down from the start, if one of it’s main stars is to be believed.
While speaking to Vanity Fair, Kylo Ren actor Adam Driver stated that his early meetings with director J.J. Abrams were not vague. They apparently had a clear idea as to where they were going with this series and while the details needed to be worked out, they knew where they were going from the start:
An overall arc was very, not vague, the opposite, it was very clear—[there was] an end in sight even from the very beginning. The details obviously hadn’t been worked out, but we had talked about the very thing that we’d been working towards with this last one.
If Adam Driver is to be believed, then perhaps Disney and Lucasfilm had the plot of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker locked down before a single bit of footage was shot!
What do you all make of this? Do you think that Kathleen Kennedy and company had the series direction locked down from the start? Will this show in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
