Following a number of teasers over the past few days, Disney and Lucasfilm have released a brand new trailer for Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The trailer made its debut during NBC’s coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics and features a ton of never-before-seen footage from the highly anticipated movie, including an awesome shot of Darth Vader… or at least his back. Plus, we get a better look at some of the other characters such as K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) and Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen).

You can watch the new trailer below.

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,’ an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Starring Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, Jiang Wen, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk and Genevieve O’Reilly, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story comes to a galaxy near you on December 16, 2016. Are you excited?

Is it wrong for me to say that I’m more stocked for this than I was for The Force Awakens (which I think was over-rated and ultimately failed to live to the hype,….IMO)?

    I don’t know.

Something about Abrams not having his grubby little hands on this one, along with the lower expectations (or no expectations) gives me a greater sense of anticipation.

You’re happy ’cause this is something new. This is something we haven’t seen before. A New Hope 2: Hope Harder wasn’t enough, whereas this could be.
