Disney has sent theaters around the world a letter recommending that they would provide warnings for audiences seeing Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker regarding sequences involving flashing lights.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is under two weeks away from hitting theaters around the world, and as theaters prepare for the inevitable crowds, it appears that they will likely be placing warnings in certain places for customers to see that the final chapter of the Skywalker Saga contains sequences with sustained flashing lights and could potentially cause seizures for those with photo sensitive epilepsy.
You can read Disney’s letter to theaters worldwide down below:
“Out of an abundance of caution, we recommend that you provide at your venue box office and online, and at other appropriate places where your customers will see it, a notice containing the following information: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker contains several sequences with imagery and sustained flashing lights that may affect those who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy or have other photosensitivities.”
This isn’t the first time theaters would put up warnings for the release of a new Star Wars film. In fact, when Star Wars: The Last Jedi was out, some theaters put out a warning regarding a 10-second sequence in which the film went completely silent, which was by design.
Thanks to this notice nearly two weeks before the film premieres, theaters will be able to prepare for the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker with as much precaution as possible to make sure audiences susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy are aware of what’s to come.
