‘Stargirl’: DC Universe Series Adds Anjelika Washington In Mystery Role

DC Universe announced that Anjelika Washington has officially joined the cast of Stargirl as a series regular.

Details on Anjelika Washington’s role are currently being kept under wraps, though executive producer Geoff Johns, who created the titular heroine of the series, explained that she will be familiar to comic book readers. Johns made the following statement on Washington’s casting:

“Anjelika Washington is a bright, funny and unbelievably talented actor and I’m thrilled to have her join the cast alongside Brec. We’re withholding the character she’s playing for now, but it’ll be one familiar to DC Comics fans!”

High school sophomore Courtney Whitmore who inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new DC Universe series reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in a fun, exciting and unpredictable series premiering in 2019, produced by Warner Bros. Television, Mad Ghost Productions and Berlanti Productions.

Actress Brec Bassinger will portray lead hero Courtney Whitemore while Geoff Johns will write and executive produce the 13-episode first season of Stargirl. Sarah Schechter and Arrowverse boss Greg Berlanti will also serve as executive producers on the series.

Stargirl is scheduled to debut on DC Universe in August 2019.
