Stellan Skarsgard assured audiences that Warner Bros. has not interfered with director Denis Villeneuve’s vision for Dune.
Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve will soon bring a new feature film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel Dune to cinema screens. Considering his past acclaimed works, audiences are eager to see Denis Villeneuve’s vision for the science fiction novel, which the filmmaker himself has described as a dream project.
Joining the cast of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is Stellan Skarsgard, who reportedly plays the character named Baron Vladimir Harkonnen. During an interview with Collider, Stellan Skarsgard discussed his experience working with Denis Villeneuve and stated that Warner Bros. seemingly gave the filmmaker creative freedom with Dune:
“I’ve always wanted to work with him partly because he’s such a wonderful man, but also because he’s a brilliant director. It’s fun when you get one of those big sci-fi movies and you know it’s going to be directed by a true filmmaker. It’s not going to be directed by the studio. It seemed like they were giving him pretty free hands. And you have to, because his personal stamp on the film is paramount for the success of it.”
Dune was first adapted into a feature film in 1984 by director David Lynch, receiving mixed reviews but becoming a cult favorite. In 2000, the novel was later adapted as a miniseries on the Sci-Fi channel.
Denis Villeneuve is also helming the pilot of a Dune television series for Warner Bros. in addition to serving as an executive producer on the project. A release date for the Dune series has yet to be announced.
Directed Denis Villeneuve from a script he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth, Dune stars by Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.
