Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz has confirmed that Colton Haynes will not return as a series regular for the eighth and final season of the Stephen Amell series.

Colton Haynes made his debut as Roy Harper/Arsenal in the first season of The CW’s Arrow before being promoted to series regular status for the second and third seasons. However, Colton Haynes left the Stephen Amell series in season three, citing mental health and struggles with his sexual identity as the reason for his departure.

Throughout the fourth, fifth, and sixth seasons of Arrow, Colton Haynes made recurring guest appearances before making a full-time return in season seven of the Stephen Amell series. Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz confirmed Colton Haynes’ exit for the eighth and final season at the Television Critics Association press tour, adding that she hopes to have him back before the series concludes with its upcoming 10-episode run:

“We hope to have him back. We love him and he’s obviously one of the foundations of the show.”

The news comes amid public reports of personal struggles and tragedies in Colton Haynes’ personal life.
