Entertainment Weekly has revealed a sneak peek at the script for Stranger Things 2 which introduces fans to The Palace — the Arcade seen in the Thriller trailer — as well as Sadie Sink’s Max,  a newcomer to the group of young friends established in the first season.

In Stranger Things 2, the adventure continues in the fall of 1984 as the world itself is now turning upside down. The series is set to explore the consequences of the time Will (Noah Schnapp) spent in the Upside Down as well as the interdimensional gate that is still open at the Department of Energy. The characters are said to be struggling to return to a sense of normalcy only to discover that it might not actually be possible.

As we saw in the Thriller trailer released at San Diego Comic-Con, things quickly start to go awry for Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) who is still connected to the shadow realm he was trapped in for a week during the first season and now seems to have some sort of connection to the newer, greater threat Hawkins will face this year, the giant Lovecraftian spider monster the cast has dubbed as the “shadow” monster.

The sneak peek at the script not only introduces us to The Palace and Max aka Mad Max, but also features a new sleazier character named Keith who fancy’s a date with Nancy (Natalia Dyer) as it reveals the scene featured at the open of the Thriller trailer.

The Duffer brothers explained to EW that the idea of introducing an arcade into the series was the first thing they came up with for the highly-anticipated sequel season:

Our very first idea for season 2 was to introduce a local arcade (named The Palace, in a nod to WarGames!). We love board games but in truth have spent more time playing videogames (too much time, our mom might say), so we wanted to weave them into the fabric of the show. An added bonus: every game in the arcade worked, so we got to play between takes!”

You can check out the script at Entertainment Weekly.

Stranger Things 2 stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, and Noah Schnapp. In addition to Astin, the series has also added Paul Reiser (Aliens), Brett Gelman (Jobs), Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers), Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen, and Broadway star Sadie Sink into the mix as well. Here’s the official synopsis:

It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.

Stranger Things 2 hits Netflix October 27, 2017. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the next season of Stranger Things as we learn it.
