David Harbour teased a huge reveal about Hopper’s backstory in the fourth season of Stranger Things.
In the second season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, Eleven happens upon a five boxes belonging to David Harbour’s Hopper, one of which is marked “New York” while another is marked “Vietnam.” Although Hopper was shown to have been killed in the third season finale, it was later revealed that he survived and is now a prisoner in Russia.
During an appearance at Liverpool Comic-Con, David Harbour hinted at the expect from Hopper in the fourth season of Stranger Things. While Harbour didn’t divulge much on what the future holds for the character, he did reveal that fans will discover a huge reveal about Hopper’s backstory:
“So there are these three things that we’ve established in the season that if we don’t pay off, it means that they’re bad writers. And the Duffer brothers are very good writers. So I know specifically that in Season 4 we will give you a big, huge reveal about Hopper’s backstory.”
David Harbour revealed just how long he’s known about this detail of Hopper’s past and expressed just how excited he is to finally let audiences know:
“It’s one of the things that I’ve known since the first frame of the first shot, and we haven’t expressed it yet. And finally we’re gonna express it in a big way. It’s my favorite thing about him that you guys don’t know about him yet, but it has to do with these backstories of New York, Vietnam, and dad. And I’m really excited for you guys to know more about that, and it relates, of course, to things he’s doing with Eleven and Joyce and things like that.”
